You know how to put on a show … but do you know how to plan a theatre production effectively? This intensive one day session will take participants through all stages of production planning from the initial idea through to opening night. The session will take a real life example of a production and participants will plan each stage of the process, learning useful hints and tips along the way.Topics to be covered include:
1. Setting up a Production (The Role of the Producer, Commercial v Subsidised theatre, Scheduling, Marketing and Promotion)
2. Legalities Explained (Creative teams and casting, Contracts, Insurance)
3. Budgeting and Financial Management (Budgets, Raising finance, Managing Finance)
The programme will be run by creative business consultant Sinead Mac Manus who has worked for a wide range of arts organisations, including Mimbre, Frantic Assembly, Tall Stories and movingeast. Sinead is currently CPD Leader at University of Greenwich and a freelance arts consultant, producer and trainer working in the theatre, dance and street arts/circus sectors. She specialises in organisational development, training and 1-2-1 support for performing arts companies and has devised and run training events for CIDA, PANDA and CIBAS. In partnership with Forbidden Theatre Company, she has been running the New Company’s Survival Guide course since 2006 and it the author of ‘eVolve Handbook: a practical guide to producing performance’, co-authored with Kerry Irvine and commissioned by P.I Network, Brunel University.
