Ever find yourself running out of time and budget on your creative projects? Would you like to learn the fundamentals of project management in an accessible and interesting way? This intensive day will provide you with the knowledge and skills to understand the importance of project management in the Creative Industries and to make effective and efficient project management decisions. You will be introduced to the basic disciplines of project management, such as resource and time planning, controls, communication mechanisms and reviews, and you will learn how to define the scope of a project and develop a comprehensive project plan. Participants are recommended to choose a real-life project to focus on during the day.
Topics to be covered include:
• The Project Definition and the Project Plan
• Team work and communication in projects
• Planning the Project: Breaking it Down, Creating a schedule, Expect the Unexpected
• Managing the project
• Clients, contracts and costs
The programme will be run by creative business consultant Sinead Mac Manus who has worked for a wide range of arts organisations, including Mimbre, Frantic Assembly, Tall Stories and movingeast. Sinead is currently CPD Leader at University of Greenwich and a freelance arts consultant, producer and trainer working in the theatre, dance and street arts/circus sectors. She specialises in organisational development, training and 1-2-1 support for performing arts companies and has devised and run training events for CIDA, PANDA and CIBAS. In partnership with Forbidden Theatre Company, she has been running the New Company’s Survival Guide course since 2006 and it the author of ‘eVolve Handbook: a practical guide to producing performance’, co-authored with Kerry Irvine and commissioned by P.I Network, Brunel University. Prior to her arts management career, Sinead had a successful career as an Urban Planner in the corporate and local government sectors. She currently sits on the Board of Theatre Venture and the Steering Committee of Londondance.com and was a dance assessor of the Arts Council for many years.
