Fundraising and Income Generation workshop
Posted by Upstart on 06.02.08
Fundraising and Income Generation
Saturday, 1st March

One of the biggest barriers to success for the non-profit arts company is lack of funds. This intensive one day session will cover the following areas:

• We will start the day by looking inwards to see how funding and investment ready your business really is. We will go through a vital health check exercise and develop a practical action plan for you to start implementing key changes in your organisation.
• We will take first steps towards identifying your core values and the key drivers in your business which will form the base of your funding strategy.
• We will do an interactive and comprehensive survey of the funding landscape in the UK from Government funding through to trusts and foundations, small bursary schemes, and sponsorship.
• Practical exercises will illustrate to participants how to approach funders and write successful grant applications.
• We will examine current areas of interest in fundraising and income generation such as private donors and procurement.
• We will also do some ‘crystal ball gazing’ and look to some future trends in arts funding.
• The session will also touch on creative ways of raising capital and finding support outside the funding system using real-life case studies.

The course is suitable for individuals or groups who are new to fundraising or more experienced participants who would like to review and refresh their skills and find out the latest thinking in this area.

The programme will be run by creative business consultant Sinead Mac Manus who has worked for a wide range of arts organisations, including Mimbre, Frantic Assembly, Tall Stories and movingeast. Sinead is currently CPD Leader at University of Greenwich and a freelance arts consultant, producer and trainer working in the theatre, dance and street arts/circus sectors. She specialises in organisational development, training and 1-2-1 support for performing arts companies and has devised and run training events for CIDA, PANDA and CIBAS. In partnership with Forbidden Theatre Company, she has been running the New Company’s Survival Guide course since 2006 and it the author of ‘eVolve Handbook: a practical guide to producing performance’, co-authored with Kerry Irvine and commissioned by P.I Network, Brunel University.
